I rarely speak of love, yet I am a steadfast believer in it. Love has an undeniable power to drive us beyond the limits we thought defined us, making us act in ways unimaginable. So much of art—songs, stories, and poetry—celebrates the well-trodden tale of one person’s love for another. That narrative, while timeless and beautiful, is abundantly documented. But love is far more expansive than the confines of romance.
What often goes unspoken is the variety of things that can be loved, and how that love manifests differently. The love of nature compels one to nurture and protect it, while the love of a car may inspire precision and care in its upkeep. The core of love remains the same, but its expression varies based on the object of affection.
In truth, what we love shapes who we become. The way a person loves their work, their hobbies, their surroundings—these define the essence of their character. Perhaps the question isn’t simply, “Who do you love?” but “What do you love, and how does that love express itself?”
We’ve romanticized love as a singular narrative for too long. Maybe it’s time we broadened the lens and recognized the vast landscapes of devotion that exist in every facet of life. Because in the end, the story of love is not just about the person beside us; it’s about everything that ignites our passion, drives our purpose, and fills our world with meaning.
